Update

I have not written on this blog in a rather long time. Time for an update !

So during the summer I went on great holiday in the south of France in a lovely town called Lodeve.

I have also managed to get myself a full time job! I am now working at a great rental firm called VMI.
It is a great company to work at as it is at the for front of high definition in the UK. They have also just put their name down for the brand spanking Arri digital camera system: http://www.arridigital.com/teaser

I am also becoming increasingly interested in the Techno crane especially the technodolly: http://www.technodolly.com/ it looks like a great versatile peice of equipment and I am eager to see it in the flesh !

More to come soon

Days fishing or should i say blanking !

Last wednesday I woke up at 3 am to go fishing at one of my favourite marks.
It was also going to be the first days filming of my new project, an online sea fishing tv channel.

The conditions were looking perfect as there was hardly and breeze and the water was flat calm.
As we arrived at said mark though the water was looking a bit murkey, oh well i thought and set about casting a plug next to a load of promising looking rocks. You guessed it I bought back with me half of the north seas weed and not alot else. I tried all types of lures including softies as i thought they might break through the weed and attract the fish. No sucsess

We went back to the drawring board as we realised that we couldnt make a fishing programme without catching any fish. So we bit the bullet and went to the local tackle store and bought some really nice fresh lug and some squid.

After parting with the money for that we arrived back at the mark. First cast and the tide+weed was making sure that the lead would not hold bottom no matter how large it was. after a couple of hours of this we decided enough was enough.

So I guess its back to the drawing board and to actually catch some fish on film !

Cycle Touring

I have become really interested in long haul bicycle tours recently. I love the idea of just getting on the bike with a tent a cooker and not much else and just going !

I find this guy an inspiration :

Term 1 Third Year

I started my third year in a bit of a panic about my dissertation.

Luckily i get learning support due to my dyslexia. The tutor at Ravensbourne  is really good and she gave me a good direction to go in , a target to reach and some really good advice.

After that initial panic i settled into the course and we started learning about narrative and script development. In these lectures and workshops we were given the chance to write a script and then discuss it i a group and pick the strongest most feasible one to develop as a group.

I really enjoyed this part of the term because as much as I hate written work I really like the idea of creating scripts for both film and television.

The two examples of script and character development that really stuck in my mind were:

Tinker Taylor Solider Spy:

object width="425" height="344">

In this Clip there is only one line of dialogue right at the end yet we all assume the hierarchy of all the men in the room just through the use of body language,  good direction and most importantly a really well thought out screenplay.

and the second :

Creature Comforts

In this series of short sketches made by Nick Park of Wallace and Grommet fame gives animals both human voices and expressions. I feel that this really shows the importance of good scripting and the use of expression and body language to give the meaning that you want.

During these lessons we were also given the task of producing one of the drama scripts chosen by our tutor within our group.
The Script we recieved was called 'luv lie txt.' The initial script needed to be edited so we met and threw around some ideas.

Kenny Parker did the final re- write and it had now turned into quite a dark film !

To cut a long story short the production of the film went really well and we managed to do 37 tracking shots in the space of two days filming !

We are now editing it and should hopefully be up here very soon.

New Year

Ok its new year.

So a new year means making some sort of promise to yourself. Mine is to actually post stuff on here as i think it will really help me in my final two terms at Ravensbourne as it will act as some kind of reflective log.

In my next post i will give brief overview of the first term and the Christmas hols.
